Enjoying an idyllic setting by the River Vienne, Eymoutiers is one of Haute-Vienne's ancient medieval towns. Endowed with period houses, old tanners' quarters and wooded areas, the town charms visitors at first sight.
On a warm day, a walk along the riverbanks in bloom is a lovely way to absorb the authentic character of the place. If you look up, you will notice an interesting detail: gently sloping roofs covered in canal tiles, a rare sight in the region.
During your visit, make a stop at the Collegiate Church of St. Stephen (Saint-Etienne), a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, whose 16 stained glass windows are unique in Limousin. Finally, contemporary art enthusiasts will enjoy strolling around the Espace Paul Rebeyrolle to gaze upon paintings by the eponymous artist, who was born in the town.
