Today serving as the mayor's office, the originally medieval Château de Fumel was remodelled in the 18th century. Its splendid terraced gardens overlooking the Lot valley offer a wonderful panoramic view of the river and surroundings. It also boasts a French-style formal garden on the upper terrace and a landscaped garden below planted with a variety of tree species, such as cedars of Lebanon, chestnut trees and plane trees.
There's nothing like a trip on a traditional flat-bottomed boat (gabarre) to continue exploring Fumel and the Lot valley. During the summer, take one of the cruises with commentary (approx. 1hr15) from the foot of Fumel bridge.
