Described as one of the prettiest villages in France and awarded the 2 flower label for its floral decoration, the village of Angles has a very rich cultural history. People have been living on the banks of the Anglin river since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the Magdalenian sculptures at Roc-aux-Sorciers. These are the most significant discoveries of this kind in Europe, of the period 14,000 years ago.
Discover the medieval village streets whose names evoke past times, translated as the Englishmen's Trench, The Hunting Horn, House of Cardinal La Ballue... Visit the impressive ruins of the chateau (12th.- 15th. centuries) which tower 50 metres above the Anglin Valley and the lower part of the village. You can visit the chateau in July and August. Visit also the Sainte Croix Chapel, the remains of an 11th C monastery and the lower village cemetery with its 14th C Easter cross.
During the 'Jours d'Angles" festival, see the embroidery workshop, and learn about an embroidery technique unique to the Village of Angles-sur-l'Anglin.
